Paper Pairings

Just lining some inside journal covers. These are all handmade art papers - usually I mix in vintage and upcycled papers too. I could do this all day! xo

Small Shop Update

New journals will be in my shop today! My favorite by far is the "Let's Cook It Right" book with the burn mark in the corner. These make lovely graduation gifts! xo

Works in Progress

I'm working on Simple Words journals today. My art room could not be more sun-infused, and I could not be more thankful. I try to put a bit of "snark" into my Simple Words journals whenever I can. The above quote is from Neil Gaiman and ends with, "Horrible, isn't it?" Hmmm…I hope I'll be able to fit it all in.
It's freezing in the midwest still. Happy Tuesday! xo

Books Books Books!

Just a note to let you know these six beauties are now on the shelves at Maven.

And these are on a long journey to a vintage shop in Washington state - thrilling!
Hope you are staying warm wherever you are! xo

books, books, books

Delivering more upcycled journals to Maven today. My favorite is, by far, Jane Withers and the Swamp Monster. The mild mannered cover is misleading, because the inside cover art (I didn't add this, this is exactly how the book was published) is brilliant in my opinion. Have a great day! xo

It was time

This week I ordered 200 bindings and then I purchased Mod Podge. By the gallon. A gallon of glue. So apparently I'm all in. And when I'm done selling 200 journals, I should be ready to upgrade my binding machine, but that's a story for another day. I hate my binding machine. But I love Mod Podge.

To celebrate, I want to make sure that you know about Mod Podge Rocks? This fun fun fun blog will tell you how to mod podge everything, from furniture, to shoes, to chandeliers, to toilet paper rolls....

Hope you have a great weekend! xo

Back at it

We're trying to re-claim our school year rhythm over here. I'm back to bookmaking - collaging, sorting, mess making! xo

psssst....

There is a very small shop update over at my etsy shop, in my upcycled journals section. These are old books destined to be landfill that I simple repurpose into journals. They're not collaged, but they are unique and very fun and sometimes very beautiful (see Mona Lisa journal).

If you're looking for a hand-made gift for under $20, please take a peek! xo

Upcycled Journals

I'm making upcycled journals this week. I started making these when I realized that some of the old books I found were too beautiful (or funny) to cover with collage. I clean the covers, repair the inside covers if necessary, add a label for the new owner and fill with writing paper that's at least 30 percent recycled.

It will be all I can do to not keep the "Strange Woman" journal - it is old and stained, but so fun, isn't it? And the doctors and nurses book - whoooooeeeeeee - possibly the most sexist children's book I have ever read, but I love the cover. We'll see if it sells - maybe to a nursing or medical student?

These journals will be in my etsy shop on Friday - there are others too, so please check in! And I also have a small selection of these at Peridot. Enjoy your days! xo

Simple Words journals

This is my newest journal series. These are old Readers Digest books and the covers are so beautiful that I don't want to cover them completely with collage. Each book will have a simple word or phrase (hopefully motivational) on the front and another simple detail on the back: a quote, an image, etc. xo

P.S. Jenny at LGN posted about these books today too - fun!
